Monmouth is located in Warren County Illinois with a population close to 9,000. It is known regionally as Maple City. Originally settled in 1824, the town was later established in 1831. Kosciusko was set to be the name - drawn out of a hat - but the founder feared it would be too difficult to spell or pronounce.

What makes your community unique or special— something only locals would know or appreciate?
Our community is very good at coming together when people need help or to support our local sports teams. Just a couple of benefits of living in a small town.
Are there any annual events, traditions, or landmarks your town is especially proud of?
- Home to Wyatt Earp's birthplace, which is also now an Air B&B.
- Monmouth is home to Monmouth College, home of the Fighting Scots.
- Monmouth hosts one of the largest car shows in Illinois - Annual Cruise Night in the Maple City. The 27th annual car show will be held on Friday, August 7th!
- Since 1948, Monmouth has held the Warren County Prime Beef Festival during the week of Labor Day each year. It kicks off with a princess pageant the Saturday before Labor Day, then there are various events throughout the week, including a parade, carnival, livestock shows, demo derbies and chicken and calf scrambles, just to name a few.
- Monmouth is also home to the 'oldest continually run airport in Illinois.' It opened in 1921 - Monmouth Municipal Airport.
- Smithfield Foods, a pork processing plant, is the City's largest employer.
- One of the Lincoln-Douglas debates was held in Monmouth in 1858
If someone were visiting for the first time, what’s one place or activity they absolutely shouldn’t miss?
Wyatt Earp's Birthplace is a must see spot. It is now an AirBnB, but still provides a step back in time for a unique view into America's early history.
Papa's Bar & Grill is also known for having the best BBQ in the area!
What would you tell another municipality that’s considering partnering with FREY?
Customer Service is exceptional! I find the systems easy to use and understand, but when I do have questions, I can either call or e-mail our Support Technician Dean, and he is always very helpful. E-mailing me screen shots of how to do what I am asking to do, which is extremely helpful!
