Blue Ridge Jail, VA uses FMS Fund Accounting Software

Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority is considered a political subdivision.  Political Subdivisions are local governments created by the State to help fulfill their obligations.  Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority is governed and made up of the following local jurisdictions:  City of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and Halifax.  The primary mission is to support the criminal justice system by operating its centers in a manner that produces a safe and secure environment for the public, staff, and inmates.  The total jail capacity for inmates is 1,700.  The total number of employees averages 400 including security and administration staff.

Kathy Bryant was hired in 2017 as a Payroll Specialist.  Her educational background includes Accounting and Payroll/Human Resources.  She has over 30 years of experience in her field.  Her work load includes processing all quarterly and year-end reporting required by Federal/State guidelines, on-time processing, multi-tasking, and maintaining a high level of confidentiality are key points in her position.

Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority has been using FMS BUCS Fund Accounting and CHIPS Payroll systems since 2003.  Kathy stated FREY Municipal Software was chosen for its great reputation with other government offices and for the fund accounting practices required for the operations of a Political Subdivision.

Kathy feels CHIPS is very user friendly.  She finds the simplicity of data entry throughout the different functions very helpful.  Kathy finds FMS staff and support team to be extremely courteous and helpful.  “When making a call to FMS, I am greeted with a very welcoming voice that is eager to handle and transfer me to the correct person to handle my specific need,” Kathy explained.

When asked what she liked best about FMS, Kathy’s response was the excellent support help she receives.  “Dean is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful with all questions and tech support,” Kathy replied.
